Sandwiches are always fresh and tasty. Portions are large and the staff is friendly and helpful.  Cold and Hot sandwiches are both on the menu. The Meatball sandwich is great... Great pastrami, not too salty or greasy, but full of flavor. Their Gene's Special is a great cold cut sando. Opt for the large and just save the rest if you can't finish. So I've been here twice since my first review. The first pastrami I had wasn't an actual pastrami dip. They got my order wrong. So I finally had an actual pastrami sandwich, and boy was it good! The pastrami Dip is the best I've ever had. 13.11 for a small pastrami,fries, and a drink. I've been coming here often and have been enjoying the food. It took me a while to discover Gene's Grinders, because they're a few blocks away from the now bustling Old Town Monrovia, and like many others that walk on Myrtle, we usually pop in to an eatery during a stroll. Thanks to social media marketing and the power of a tempting photo, it led me here. First visit, I placed an order for 2 sandwiches on my phone while en route to cut down on the waiting time. I completed the order right when we pulled up to the parking lot (yea, took me a while) and when I walked in 2 minutes later, my sandwiches were ready. What?? "Are you sure those are mine?" I asked. They were and I left plenty happy. I always order online and it's usually ready within minutes. You can customize how you like it, or choose add-ons. Now I've never been there during peak lunch hours so can't speak for those wait times. The sandwiches are delicious. They may not have bursting flavors like a few other places but Gene does it right in their own way. They're huge, tastes fresh and prepared with a lot of thought. Example: See my photo of the roast beef. The veggies are in the middle, between layers of beef. They never make contact with the bread so even after a 1/2 hour, the bread is still soft and not soggy. The meatball sandwich has just the right amount of sauce so it's not dry, yet the bread is still intact even after being wrapped tightly in double paper. These little details make eating their sandwiches much more enjoyable then others where I end up with soggy buns falling apart making a big mess. The size is misleading to me. I ordered 12" sandwiches and these seem bigger. One sandwich can easily be 2 meals for me. I've had their meatballs a few times, the roast beef and the cold cut sandwiches, and they all satisfy me without making feel weighed down full of grease. Check out Gene's for some great sandwiches, great service from great people.
